With flood levels in Krishna and Godavari rivers rising, officials sounded alert on the border villages in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States on Thursday (August 28, 2025.)
Revenue and Irrigation authorities cautioned the people staying in low-lying areas as incessant rains were occurring in the catchment areas for the last two days.
State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha reviewed the flood situation and asked the Revenue, Irrigation, Police and other Department officers to be alert and take steps to prevent human loss.
“The officers were asked to visit the affected areas and evacuate the people staying on river and canal bunds. Relief and rehabilitation measures should be taken immediately,” the Home Minister said.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 10th Battalion Commandant V.V.N. Prasanna Kumar has said teams were put on high alert to move to the affected districts.
“NDRF is in touch with Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), District Collectors, Superintendents of Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Joint Collectors and the Disaster Management Teams,” Mr. Prasanna Kumar told The Hindu.
“The first danger warning likely to be issued soon at the Prakasam barrage and people in low-lying areas should be on high alert,” said the authority director Prakhar Jain. The inflow and outflow was 3.93 lakh cusecs at Prakasam Rage in Vijayawada.
As per the latest bulletin on Thursday afternoon (August 28, 2025), the inflown at Srisailam Dam 3.06 lakh cusecs and outflow 3.62 lakh cusecs. The inflow at Nagarjuna Sagar 2.69 lakh cusecs and outflow 3.17 lakh cusecs. Inflow at Pulichintala 3.13 lakh cusecs and, outflow 3.72 lakh cusecs. The Godavari is also rising slightly.
Water level at Bhadrachalam was currently 37.70 ft. Water level at Kunavaram was 15.78 meters. The In and Outflow at Dowleswaram in Rajahmundry was 5.31 lakh cusecs.
“The Godavari river situation is likely to reach almost the first warning level by tomorrow. So, people along Krishna and Godavari rivers should be alert. They do not attempt to cross streams and canals,” Mr. Prakhar Jain said.
India Meteorological Department, Amaravati Centre, on Thursday (August 28, 2025) informed that the low-pressure area over South Odisha adjoining Chhattisgarh laid over central parts of Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood.
The associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting south westwards with height. The monsoon trough is passing through Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam district and thence to east-south eastwards to central Bay of Bengal. So, there will be light to moderate rainfall across the State till the next few days.
