Olive Ridley turtle washed ashore at Polem

Canacona: A live Olive Ridley turtle weighing 15-20kg washed ashore at Polem beach on Monday. Lifeguard Harichandra spotted the turtle during his rounds and alerted the forest department.The Canacona forest rescue team reached the beach, took the turtle, and contacted the Benaulim Veterinary Hospital. Local rescuers Dadpir Mullah and Ajay Pagi attended to it at first and the team led by Dr Manohar Nagre inspected the turtle.South marine range forest officer Rajesh Naik said the turtle may have sensed danger at sea and was dragged into shallow waters by strong currents.In the past month, three Olive Ridley turtles washed ashore — two injured at Agonda and the present healthy one at Polem. The rescue team has taken the turtle to Benaulim for a closer examination, Naik said.
