A Chicago woman, who is also a US citizen, was dragged out of her car and pinned to the ground by heavily armed, masked federal agents. According to a report by The Chicago Tribune, Dayanne Figueroa had been driving through West Town on her way to get coffee before work when she found herself amid a chaotic immigration raid.
Witnesses told the Tribune that agents were arresting several landscaping workers believed to be in the country without authorisation, as neighbours shouted warnings and honked horns — a signal commonly used locally to alert others of immigration enforcement in the area.
As Figueroa tried to drive through the 1600 block of West Hubbard Street on October 10, an unmarked vehicle driven by federal agents collided with her car while attempting to flee an agitated crowd, multiple videos reviewed by The Chicago Tribune showed. Moments later, agents stopped abruptly, exited their vehicle with guns drawn, and pointed them at Figueroa.

A video shows the agents forcibly opening the door of the car, pulling her out by her legs, and pushing her into a red minivan as bystanders shouted, “You hit her! We have it on video!" Her vehicle, keys, and coffee were left behind in the middle of the street.
The Department of Homeland Security later claimed Figueroa was at fault, alleging that “she crashed into an unmarked government vehicle and violently resisted arrest, injuring two officers." She was released several hours later without charges.
Figueroa’s arrest has renewed scrutiny over federal enforcement tactics in Chicago, with critics questioning the use of force, lack of identification, and due process violations during immigration-related operations. The Chicago Tribune reported that federal agents have faced mounting criticism for aggressive behaviour, including the use of tear gas in residential areas and the detention of bystanders filming or following unmarked vehicles.
Similar incidents have sparked outrage in recent weeks. On October 9, federal prosecutors dismissed felony charges against an Oak Park man with intellectual disabilities accused of assaulting federal officers during a protest. A day earlier, a grand jury declined to indict a Chicago couple arrested during a demonstration outside the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview.
