On social media these days...: CJI Gavai quips amid Lord Vishnu remark row

Just a day after dramatic scenes played out in the Supreme Court as a lawyer attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice, BR Gavai's courtroom witnessed a light-hearted exchange on Tuesday.

The incident happened while a Supreme Court bench comprising CJI Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran was hearing a matter related to the apointment and promotions of district court judges.

During the hearing, Justice Chandran sought to discuss a matter with the Chief Justice and briefly muted the proceedings.

After the brief off-record exchange, CJI Gavai said his "brother had something to say", but chose to share it privately as things might get blown out of proportion.

"These days... in social media we don't know what will be reported... your client will be very offended," CJI Gavai told a lawyer.

The tongue-in-cheek remark by the Chief Justice came while the court was hearing a plea filed by the All India Judges Association on issues related to service conditions and pay scales of judicial officers.
