Onam 2025: Celebration and Rituals
1. Malayali women employ "Pookkalam," or floral designs, to adorn the east side of their homes.
Fresh yellow flowers are used to create a flower rangoli known as pookalam. It is considered a lucky charm.2. Vallamkali is known as the Snake Boat Race. It is one of Kerala's most famous traditions. This is a well-liked vacation spot.3. The art of pulikali is practiced by all men. In this tradition, artists paint tigers on their bodies and move to drum beats. Onam's performance is the focus of its fourth day.4. Individuals bring their loved ones to a big celebration called "Onam Sadya."
They cook and serve thirteen meals on banana leaves, including rice, vegetable curry, curd, and payasam, a sweet stew. It is finished on the third day of Onam. Payasam is necessary for Onam to be complete. The ingredients for its preparation are rice, coconut, milk, and sugar.5. Kathakali dance is performed, telling a story from Hindu mythology. The majority of practitioners of this art form are guys, and they typically wear costumes.
In addition to Kathakali, other dances performed at Onam include Thiruvathira, Pulikali, Kummattikali, Thumbi Thullal, and Onam Kali.6.
