There was no time to waste for Ben Shelton, who needed less than a minute on Friday to complete a suspended match and book his spot in the Wimbledon third round.
The 10th-seeded American returned to Court Two and took just 55 seconds to seal a 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 victory over Australia’s Rinky Hijikata.

Shelton had been on the verge of victory late Thursday evening, poised to serve for the match at 6–2, 7–5, 5–4. But as light faded on the roofless, floodlight-free Court Two, officials made the call to suspend play at 9:30 p.m., despite Shelton needing only one more game.
Moments earlier, the 22-year-old had held three match points on Hijikata’s serve at love-40. The 87th-ranked Australian, however, responded with poise, reeling off five consecutive points to stay alive. Shelton, visibly irritated, pleaded with the chair umpire—shouting “just one more game"—as boos echoed from the stands.
One Game, Three Aces, Job Done
Returning Friday morning with no time to waste, Shelton quickly closed out the match in style. He fired three aces and followed up with an unreturned second serve to wrap up the win in just four points. The crowd, clearly behind him, erupted in chants of “One more game" as he secured his place in the last 32.
Shelton, who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2023, continues his impressive Grand Slam form. He made semifinal runs at both the 2023 U.S. Open and 2025 Australian Open and now stands one win away from matching his best result at the All England Club.
Next up for the American is Hungarian lucky loser Márton Fucsovics, with a place in the last 16 on the line.
