A 26-year-old man died and two others were injured in Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvallur district after a group of unidentified assailants attacked them with a country-made bomb and knives in the Perambakkam area.
According to police, the incident took place in Gandhinagar where three men — Mukesh, Deepan, and Javit — were standing together when a group of men on two-wheelers arrived and hurled a bomb at them without warning. Mukesh collapsed on the spot from the impact. The assailants then chased down the other two and attacked them with knives before fleeing.
The injured, Deepan and Javit, were rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Police identified the deceased as Mukesh, who was employed as a domestic gas cylinder installer. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the murder may have been an act of revenge. An investigation is underway and no arrests have been made yet, officials from the Thiruvallur police said.
In a similar incident, a petrol bomb was hurled at the residence of a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) functionary in Keezha Munnirpallam in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district, prompting a police investigation into the attack. Selvasankar, aged 45, serves as the Palani South Union Treasurer for the DMK. Around 3 am on May 14, he was startled by a loud noise and a sudden burst of light at the entrance of his house. Moments later, a second explosion was heard, and Selvasankar rushed outside to find flames at his doorstep.
His family quickly acted to douse the fire and alerted the police. Upon reviewing CCTV footage from the premises, the family discovered that four masked individuals had arrived at the scene and threw two petrol bombs at the house before fleeing.
