One held for sexually abusing niece

The Ayiroor police on Sunday arrested a 44-year-old man for the alleged sexual abuse of his niece, who was found to be pregnant.

The incident came to light after the survivor, a 14-year-old girl, complained of severe stomach pain, leading to the discovery of her pregnancy. The accused, identified as the girl’s maternal uncle, has been residing with her family for the last five months after his estrangement from his wife.

He is suspected to have repeatedly sexually assaulted his niece, mostly after her return from school when no other family members were present. He is also alleged to have threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
