One held in train robbery case, gold worth ₹5.7 lakh recovered

The Chittoor Government Railway Police (GRP) on Monday (August 25, 2025) arrested a 26-year-old accused of robbing a woman passenger on August 6 and recovered 64 grams of stolen gold jewellery valued at ₹5.76 lakh.

According to the GRP officials, the incident was reported on August 6 when two unidentified persons attacked Kavitha (35), a native of Tirupati, on board the Tirupati–Madanapalle Summer Special near Pakala railway junction. The duo assaulted her with a knife, snatched her mangalsutra and a gold chain, before fleeing. Based on a complaint, the GRP registered a case and formed a special team to track down the accused.

Guntakal Railway SP Rahul Meena, Deputy SP (Railways) Harshitha Manikanta, and Nellore Deputy SP Muralidhar formed a special team, which verified CCTV footage from Tirupati and Pakala railway stations to track the suspects.

Acting on reliable information, the special team nabbed K. Pavan Kumar of Sri Sathya Sai district on Monday and recovered the stolen jewellery along with the weapon used for the assault. The police said a search was on for his accomplice.
