One injured in student clash at Tripura’s BBM College, police starts probe

The Tripura Police have started an inquiry into the incident where an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leader sustained minor injuries after a few former college students attacked him on a college premises on Thursday, officials said.

The injured student, identified as Tanmoy Ghosh was a fourth semester student of History department of Bir Bikram Memorial (BBM) College in Agartala.

“A complaint was filed. The police are inquiring the matter. The next course of action will be decided based on the outcome of the inquiry,” said a police officer.

Tanmoy told reporters that five-six former students of the BBM college came to the college during the golden jubilee celebrations of the college and asked the volunteers to gather and later one of them slapped him and attacked him with a sharp weapon.

“Our college is celebrating its golden jubilee and during the occasion, some programmes were organised when they came,” said Tanmoy.

The hospital authorities said that Tanmoy’s condition is stable.

“We have examined to find that his injuries are not so critical. Two stitches were done. He got injuries on his waist and he was advised to undergo an X Ray. After his primary treatment, Orthopaedics surgeon have examined him,” said the doctor.

Meanwhile, the ABVP activists of Maharaja Bir Bikram College (MBB College) on Saturday raised allegation against a tribal students’ organisation of damaging their flex boards and posters installed in the college campus.

“They have torn all out flexes, posters. We never told them not to install their flex boards. Why did they tear our flags? They have insulted us and we want them to seek apology from us,” said ABVP activist Rudranil Saha.

Saha further said, “ABVP always maintain a healthy environment in the college. When we tried to talk to them politely they behaved violently. Some workers were threatened. We work for the interests of students”.
