One killed as car plunges into canal in Alappuzha

A man died after the car he was travelling in fell into a canal at Punnamada in Alappuzha in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Bejoy Antony, 31, of Thathampally in Alappuzha. He died on his birthday. The accident occurred around 2 a.m. Two others who were in the car with him managed to swim to safety.

Officials said the car lost control at a curve and plunged into the water near Rajiv boat jetty. It was reportedly raining at the time of the accident.

Bejoy, who got trapped inside the vehicle, was pulled out by personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services. Though he was rushed to a hospital, he could not be saved.
