One Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security forces in a forest area along the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts in Chhattisgarh on Friday, reported PTI, citing officials.
According to the official, an encounter broke out after a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Narayanpur and Dantewada and the Special Task Force (STF), both units of the state police force, was out on an anti-Naxal operation along the inter-district border.
As of now, one body of a Naxalite has been recovered.
The move comes at a time when the state is stepping up its crackdown on Naxal groups. Recently on September 3, a total of 20 Naxalites, 11 of them carrying a collective bounty of Rs 33 lakh, surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.
20 Naxalites Surrender In Chhattisgarh
Of the total who surrendered, nine are women, including a hardcore cadre of the Peoples’ Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion no. 1, which was considered as the strongest military formation of Maoists, an official said.
They turned themselves in before senior police and CRPF officials citing disappointment with “hollow" Maoist ideology, atrocities committed by cadres on innocent tribals and growing internal differences within the banned outfit, Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said.
Amit Shah Highlights Central Government’s Fight Against Naxalism
Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the commitment of the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the fight against Naxalism, and ascertained that it will not rest until all the Naxalites either surrender, are caught or eliminated.
His remark came when he met and felicitated the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Chhattisgarh Police, District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Cobra personnel in New Delhi on August 3.
Noting that the bravery and valour of the jawans during ‘Operation Black Forest’ will be remembered as a golden chapter in the history of the anti-naxal operations, Shah said, “The Modi government will not rest until all the Naxalites either surrender, are caught or eliminated."
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we will make India Naxal-free," mentioned Shah while meeting with the personnel here in the national capital in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma.
