OnePlus recently announced OxygenOS 16, its latest software built on Android 16. The company is touting a refresh that brings significant visual changes, performance enhancements, and a host of AI-powered features.

There are also 'Revamped Visuals and Customisation'. These include: 'Liquid Glass' Design that incorporates Gaussian blur effects across multiple areas, lending the system a modern, glass-like appearance. Other is 'Translucent Floating Bar'. It is a transparent floating bottom bar has been introduced to the default Photos app, home screen search bar, app drawer, and recents screen, bearing a similarity to Apple’s iOS 26 design.

The rollout is scheduled to begin in batches starting in November 2025.

OnePlus has organized the design changes under two main themes: ‘Breathe With You’ and ‘Thrive with Free Expression’.

Customisable Quick Settings

The Quick Settings panel is now more user-friendly. Users can customize the quick tiles, and the edit and three-dot menu buttons have been relocated from the bottom to the top for more convenient and intuitive access.

Powerful AI Integration

A number of new AI-powered tools are central to OxygenOS 16:

  • Private Computing Cloud: This feature ensures user data is processed locally on the device, significantly improving privacy by preventing sharing with third parties.
  • AI Writer Toolkit: An all-in-one tool designed to assist with creating mind maps, drafting emails, writing social media captions, improving existing text, and even generating charts.
  • Mind Space: A new utility for consolidating and organizing scattered digital information in one central, easily accessible location.

Live Alerts and Updates

The Live Alerts feature, which is displayed near the selfie camera cutout, is now significantly enhanced. It will receive real-time updates from apps utilizing the new Live Updates API. For example, Google Maps can now display turn-by-turn directions and distance-to-destination directly in the Live Alerts area.
