On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot ChatGPT faced a widespread outage affecting users across the globe. Reports of service disruptions began around 12:30 pm IST and quickly escalated, with thousands of users from countries including India, the United Kingdom, and the United States experiencing difficulties accessing the platform.According to outage tracking website Down Detector, over 600 complaints were filed in India by 3 pm, while the UK and US saw more than 1,000 and nearly 500 reports, respectively, indicating a broad and significant disruption.Users attempting to interact with ChatGPT were met with error messages such as “A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again. If this issue persists, please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.”
Many initially thought their own internet connections were to blame, but as reports surged, it became clear that the problem was on OpenAI’s end. The outage also affected other OpenAI services, including Sora, the company’s text-to-video generation tool, as well as various AI APIs.

OpenAI acknowledged the issue on its official status page, stating, “Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services.
We are investigating.” The company noted that the problem had been ongoing for about two hours at the time of the update. This outage follows a similar disruption in early April, which was linked to a surge in demand for the Ghibli image generation feature that overwhelmed the system and caused a crash on April 2.

The outage sparked frustration among users worldwide, many of whom took to social media to share their experiences and check if others were facing the same problem. Students waiting for homework assistance, developers seeking coding help, and writers brainstorming ideas were all left staring at error screens, underscoring how deeply integrated AI tools like ChatGPT have become in everyday life.OpenAI has not yet confirmed when full service will be restored, but their ongoing investigation aims to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible.
