The defeat of the Constitution Amendment Bill linked to women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha marks a significant victory for democracy, federalism, and Opposition unity, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Saturday (April 18, 2026).

The Centre’s move was a “conspiracy to permanently stay in power” and alter the federal structure “in the garb of women’s reservation”, Ms. Gandhi alleged, but these attempts had been thwarted in the Lok Sabha by a united Opposition, she said.
