The Harmanpreet Kaur-led India created history on Sunday, beating South Africa by 52 runs to win their maiden ODI World Cup title at the D.Y.Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

After winning the women’s ODI World Cup final on Sunday, batter Jemimah Rodrigues kept the promise made four years ago about revealing the team song the day the team won the quadrennial event. In a BCCi video released post the victory, the batter could be seen leading the way to sing for the team and was joined by the rest of her teammates, as well as the support staff members.

“We decided almost four years ago that we would only reveal our team song when we win the World Cup. And tonight is the night,” Rodrigues said in the video, before the team got together for the rendition:

“Team India, Team India,
Karde sabki hawa tight,
Team India is here to fight.
Koi na leta humko light,
Our future is bright.
Chand pe chalenge, sath me uthenge,
Hum hai Team India, hum sath me jitenge.
Na lega koi panga, kar denge hum danga.
Rahega sabse upar, humara tiranga.
Hum hai Team India, hum hai Team India, hum hai Team India.”

Rodrigues herself had a stellar role to play in the win as it was her unbeaten 127 against Australia in the semi-final, which took the hosts home in a tense chase of 339 runs.
The 25-year-old poured her heart out after the win, opening up about facing anxiety with the help of her mother and other teammates and her faith in the almighty, which had kept her going despite facing the setback of being omitted from the playing XI for the match against England at Indore.

Rodrigues was one of many members in the current squad who were playing their first World Cup and had managed to win the title in their maiden attempt.
