Over 56,000 people have been affected by devastating flash floods and landslides across Manipur, triggered by overflowing rivers and breaches in embankments across the state, an official statement said on Tuesday.

The floods have damaged at least 10,477 houses, leaving families in urgent need of shelter and assistance.

Authorities report that 56,516 people have been affected across the state, with 2,913 people evacuated from inundated areas as rescue operations continue.

The devastation has been compounded by a series of 93 landslides reported across the state over the past five days, further hampering rescue efforts and blocking key routes.

Imphal East district has emerged as the worst-hit area, with major breaches reported at Bashikhong following the Kongba river overflowing its embankments. On Monday, one person was reported missing after being swept away by a swollen river.

The state government has established 57 relief camps, predominantly in Imphal East, offering temporary shelter and basic necessities, including food and water to those affected.

Several areas in the capital city of Imphal, including Khurai, Heingang, Porompat, and Checkon in Imphal East, remain submerged under floodwaters. Government offices have also been affected, including the DC Imphal East complex, the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, and the SP Office in Imphal East all inundated.

Relief and rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work around the clock to restore normalcy and assist those affected by the disaster.

Apart from Manipur, the situation remains dire in all of Northeast as torrential rain continues to cause mayhem. As of now, the death toll due to floods and landslides has reached 36 with over 5.5 lakh people affected across the region.
