A majority of Indians are concerned about US tariffs, with 63% saying Trump's duties on Indian goods worry them, the India Today-Cvoter Mood of the Nation poll shows. But the survey also shows 61% back a firm stance in trade talks with Washington.
About 23% believed the Indian economy can withstand US tariffs, MOTN poll shows.
Concerns over US tariffs dominated public opinion, with nearly two-thirds (63%) of respondents saying they are worried about President Donald Trump’s high duties on Indian goods, the August edition of India Today-Cvoter Mood of the Nation (MOTN) poll showed. Only 27% said they were not concerned.
When it comes to dealing with Washington, a majority (61%) felt India should keep negotiating without compromising its interests. About 23% believed the economy can withstand US tariffs, while just 9% thought New Delhi should accept American demands.
The India Today-Cvoter Mood of the Nation (MOTN) poll was conducted between July 1 and August 14, 2025, surveying 54,788 individuals across all Lok Sabha segments. An additional 1,52,038 interviews from CVoter's regular tracker data were also analysed. Thus, the opinion of a total of 2,06,826 respondents was considered for this MOTN report.
