The Ernakulam Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotic Special Squad seized over seven kilograms of suspected ganja from a rented house in Perumbavoor and arrested a person on Thursday.
The arrested was identified as Swadin Naik, 30, of Odisha. The suspected ganja was found hidden in a trolley bag. According to excise officials, he was a key link in a racket that smuggled in ganja from Odisha with help of aides, including women. Allegedly, he has smuggled in ganja and sold it here before.
Recently, the excise had arrested one of his relatives with over two kilograms of suspected ganja from Ambalamugal.
A team led by excise circle inspector Sreerah, excise inspector K.P. Pramod, assistant excise inspector (grade) O.N. Ajayakumar, preventive officer (grade)T.S. Patheesh and K.A. Manoj, civil excise officers M.T. Sreejith and Viji made the arrest.
In a separate case, the Ernakulam excise circle office seized 7.83 grams of suspected brown sugar and 20 grams of suspected ganja from Ayyappankkavu. Anwar Hussain, 36, of Assam was arrested in this connection.
A team led by excise inspector Sethulakshmi T.S., preventive officer Vipin Babu, civil excise officer Said V.M. and Vimal Raj made the arrest.
