The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday said 78.09% of enumeration forms printed as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu had been distributed to electors across the State as of 3 p.m. on November 12.
According to a press release from the ECI, out of 6,41,14,582 enumeration forms printed, a total of 5,00,67,045 forms had been distributed to electors across Tamil Nadu. A total of 68,467 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were involved in the exercise of distributing the enumeration forms. Further, the ECI has issued modified criteria for the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
According to another press release, Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said usually, a registered elector in the relevant part of the electoral roll shall be appointed as a BLA. However, in case a BLA is not available from the same part of the electoral roll, any registered elector from the same Assembly constituency can now be appointed as a BLA.
Such appointed BLAs will scrutinise the entries in the draft roll of the part for which they are appointed to identify electors who are deceased or have shifted residence. A total of 2,11,445 BLAs have been appointed by recognised political parties in Tamil Nadu, the release added.
