The Mohan Majhi Government on Wednesday (September 17, 2025) claimed to have planted more than one crore trees on a single day to celebrate the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Odisha Government had mobilised all line departments, including educational institutes across the State to plant trees. By afternoon, the number of saplings planted across the State had crossed one crore, said the State government in a statement.
As part of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0. campaign, the Bharatiya Janata Party government had planned to plant 75 lakh trees one a single day which the was achieved by 1:33 p.m.
At the state-level event of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign held at Ekamra College campus in Bhubaneswar, Mr. Majhi said planting a tree in memory of one’s mother is the best possible way to celebrate one’s birthday, and this was probably a fitting gift to PM Modi from Odisha.
Earlier, Mr. Majhi greeted PM describing has the architect of the nation’s development and the world’s most popular leader, and prayed before Lord Jagannath for his long and healthy life. Last year, Mr. Modi had celebrated his birthday in Odisha.
Under Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, the CM said Odisha had planted 6.72 crore trees and ranked fourth in the country. This year, in the second edition of the campaign, the target has been set at 7.5 crore plantations. Already, more than 6 crore saplings have been planted so far.
On Wednesday (September 17, 2025), nearly 15 lakh students from 40,000 high and higher secondary schools, 1 lakh students from 1,000 colleges, 2 lakh teachers, 76,000 Anganwadi workers, 17,500 forest protection committees, environment development committees, 17,000 ASHA workers, 16,500 Mai Bharat volunteers, and 10,000 eco-clubs enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive, the government informed in a statement.
