In a significant operation, Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies (LEAs) conducted a raid on the central headquarters of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in Lahore, seizing a large cache of gold, foreign currency, and electronic equipment, CNN-News18 has learnt.
The raid, executed by a joint LEA team comprising the Punjab Police, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), and intelligence agencies, resulted in the detention of multiple TLP members.
The raid occurred shortly after the TLP announced the postponement of its planned protest until Friday, as reported by CNN-News18 on Monday.
The LEAs reported the recovery of 2 kilograms of gold and a large amount of foreign currency, including US dollars, euros, and Indian currency notes. The total value of the seized foreign and local currency is estimated to be a staggering PKR 72 Crore (720 million Pakistani Rupees).
Following the raid, authorities are in the process of registering First Information Reports (FIRs) for serious charges, including money laundering and cybercrimes, against TLP chief Saad Rizvi, his brother Anas Rizvi, and other central figures of the party.
For further investigation, the LEAs have taken custody of computers, mobile phones, walkie-talkies, and other electronic devices recovered from the TLP office.
The crackdown comes amid a history of violence and legal issues surrounding the TLP. Multiple FIRs have already been registered against Saad Rizvi, his brother Anas Rizvi, and the TLP Punjab central leadership across Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Muridke. These include cases related to multiple murders, anti-terrorism laws, and general violence. A specific murder case was registered following the death of an SHO (Station House Officer) in Muridke during recent clashes involving TLP supporters.
