An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation in Bahrain briefed the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa on Sunday about the challenge of cross-border terrorism facing India and New Delhi’s firm resolve to combat it.

The delegation, led by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda, is one of the seven multi-party delegations India has tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community on Pakistan’s designs and India’s response to terror.

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, also a member of the delegation, while speaking to reporters on India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan, said, “India targeted nine terror camps. Pakistan was taught a lesson on May 9 and May 10 at the airbase. We are saying that India does not want this, but the neighbouring country is trying to create instability in India."

“It is trying to increase hatred between Hindus and Muslims in India. These terrorists come from there. So, a very good meeting was held. We are also telling them that Pakistan should be brought back on the grey list. Bahrain is going to be a member of the Security Council in 2026-27, so it was better from that point of view as well," Owaisi said.

Responding to a question on the meeting which took place at the Gudaibiya Palace in Manama, Owaisi said, “In today’s meeting, we presented India’s side. We told them that for many years, terrorists aided and trained by Pakistan have been carrying out terror attacks in India, and many people have lost their lives. We gave them all the data, be it Mumbai blast, train blast, suicide attack in front of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Pulwama, Pathankot attack."

“We also talked about (Pakistani Army Chief, Field Marshal General) Asim Munir’s speech on April 15, what he said about Kashmir. Pakistan’s involvement is also proved by the fact that after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the TRF organisation admitted it twice. Indian government, our cyber experts found that they had uploaded it on the Internet from close to the Pakistani military cantonment," Owaisi said.

Also speaking to reporters, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey said, “Bahrain will definitely support us at two places – in OIC (Organisation of Islamic Countries) – where Bahrain is not with Pakistan and Turkey, and also at the FATF. We have these two expectations, and we believe Bahrain will support us."

“When Bahrain was heading the FATF in 2018, Pakistan was Grey-listed as it promoted terrorism. In the OIC meeting in Jakarta, Bahrain didn’t let the agenda of Pakistan work. Whenever those meetings are held, Bahrain will strongly put forth India’s side," Dubey said.

Answering a question during the meeting, BJP MP Baijayant Panda said, “Today we have had very fruitful meetings, including with the government, with the Deputy Prime Minister. We have been communicating our objectives. The war with Pakistan is currently in a state of cessation, but the next part is that we must ensure that this doesn’t happen again."

“The terrorism that Pakistan has indulged in, we have highlighted and given facts and figures to our friends here in Bahrain. There is no tolerance for terrorism anywhere, and that is a good message that we are hearing everywhere. So the outcome of these discussions is something that we are hopeful about. I think it will lead to a situation where Pakistan will increasingly realise it cannot keep doing what they have been doing," Panda said.

The multi-party MPs also met Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, the chairman of Shura Bahrain, the upper house of the legislative body of Bahrain, and “underscored India’s resolve to fight against terrorism and strengthen bilateral ties," stated a post on X by the Indian Embassy in Bahrain.

The delegation also visited Bab Al Bahrain, a historic landmark in Manama, which Panda described as a “symbol of Bahrain’s rich cultural heritage and enduring ties with India."

During the visit, they also met prominent Indians and civil society members.

The Panda-led delegation will head to Kuwait on May 26 as part of the diplomatic outreach to apprise prominent personalities and the Indian community there about India’s stance against terrorism.

Besides Panda and Owaisi, former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, ex-National chairperson of the National Commission for Women and Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma are also among the delegation members.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives. India carried out precision strikes as part of ‘Operation Sindoor’ on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7.

It was followed by Pakistan’s attempt to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions.

The on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.
