The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday, August 21 arrested a Panchayat Secretary from Suryapet district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe in connection with housing scheme benefits.
The accused, Enjamuri Venkaiah, who serves as Panchayat Secretary of Janpahad village in Palakeedu mandal was arrested by the ACB’s Nalgonda range following a complaint lodged earlier this week.
According to the ACB, Venkaiah initially demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 from the complainant. However, after negotiations, the amount was reduced to ₹15,000. The demand was allegedly made “as a reward” for sanctioning the first instalment of the Indiramma Housing Scheme. The officer is also said to have sought further bribes for processing the next phase of instalments.
Venkaiah was arrested and produced before the First Additional Special Judge for the SPE and ACB cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. Further investigation is underway.
The ACB urged citizens to report instances of bribery by public servants. Complaints can be made by dialling the bureau’s toll-free number 1064, or through social media platforms including WhatsApp (9440446106), Facebook (Telangana ACB), and X at @TelanganaACB. The agency assured that the identity of complainants would be kept confidential.
