In what has come as a major blow to Spanish star Paula Badosa’s fledgling tennis career, the World No. 10 player is set to spend some more weeks on the sidelines after she sustained a fresh back injury. Physical fitness has been a major concern for Badosa for the past few months.

The Spaniard, whose best showing this year was at the Australian Open when she reached the semifinals, lost in the opening round of Wimbledon to Katie Boulter.

Badosa has a history of back injuries, including a stress fracture in her lower back that forced her to end her 2023 season and led to her considering retirement.

“Hi everyone, been disconnected for a while, but I wanted to update you on my situation right now. I’ve been going through some tough moments lately. Unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with a tear on my psoas since before Wimbledon, and it’s going to keep me out of competition for a few weeks," Badosa posted on her Instagram story on Monday.

Meanwhile, Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas rekindled their relationship a short time after breaking up in 2023, but reports have speculated that they have separated once again as they no longer follow each other on Instagram.

Tsitsipas, too, is having a torrid time over the past four months, despite winning the Dubai Championships in March. He gave a walkover to Valentin Royer in the opening round of Wimbledon due to an injury.

“It’s tough to describe. I mean, I’m battling many wars these days. It’s really painful to see myself in a situation like this. I feel like I’m left without answers. I don’t know. I’ve tried everything," Tsitsipas said after his exit from the Championships.

Badosa is scheduled to play alongside the Greek in the US Open’s revamped mixed doubles event, which will take place a week before the August 24 to September 7 singles main draw.
