Minister for Women and Child Development Bindhu Krishna on Thursday (June 25, 2026) downplayed the controversy surrounding the incident in which hot payasam was spilled on her head during the inauguration of the free travel scheme for women in KSRTC buses, saying there was nothing unusual about what had happened.
Responding to reports that an inquiry had been announced into the incident, the Minister said the video of the episode clearly showed that it was an accidental occurrence that could happen in a crowd.
“There is nothing unnatural about the incident. People across the world who watched the video can understand what happened. It was merely something that could occur in a gathering,” she said.
According to the Minister, the payasam had been brought to share happiness over the launch of the scheme and it accidentally spilled after someone’s hand brushed against the container.
“There is no complaint from my side. It fell on my head when someone’s hand hit it,” Ms. Krishna said.
The Minister added that the police would conduct an inquiry if a complaint was received, but maintained that there was no need for an investigation in the absence of any grievance.
“I have written to the DGP stating that no inquiry is required,” the Minister said.
The incident occurred during the inauguration of the Priyadarshini free travel scheme at the KSRTC depot in Kollam.
