Panaji: Goa police on Monday arrested Pernem resident Chandrashekhar Patil, 25, for allegedly attempting to murder his mother over family issues. He assaulted Sushma Kalangutkar, 50, for almost three hours on Sunday with a chopper.
Police said that both mother and son live in a rented house in Pernem. Patil is a daily wage worker and was recently married. His father him and his mother almost 14 years ago.Recently, Patil’s wife left him over some family issues, and he believed that this happened because of his mother.He began assaulting her around 3pm. She did not raise an alarm or seek help from neighbours as she was scared for her life. Later, when Patil went to sleep, she slowly went to the first floor and called the police and ambulance, narrating the incident.Initially, she was shifted to the community health centre, Tuem, but as her health condition was bad, she was moved to Goa Medical College, where she is undergoing treatment.“Patil, over a personal issue, abused the complainant lady in filthy words, threatened her with dire consequences to kill, saying ‘tuka aiz kide te dakhaita’ (I will teach you a lesson today), and assaulted her with slaps and kicks,” police said.
Subsequently, he intentionally assaulted her brutally with a chopper (koita), targeting her head, neck, chest, and other vital parts of the body, causing grievous injuries in an attempt to murder her, police said.Further investigation into the case is in progress with PSI Anil Polekar of Mandrem police station.
