The Phoenix Suns are reportedly in talks with veteran guard Bradley Beal regarding a potential contract buyout, according to The Arizona Republic.

Beal, who turned 32 last month, has two years and nearly $111 million remaining on his current contract, per salary data from Spotrac.

He originally signed a five-year, $251 million deal with a no-trade clause in July 2022 while still with the Washington Wizards — one of the most player-friendly contracts in NBA history.

Beal’s stint with the Suns has been plagued by persistent injuries. Since his arrival in Phoenix, he has appeared in just 53 games in each of his two seasons and hasn’t played more than 60 games in a single year since the 2020–21 season. Last season, he averaged 17.0 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds over 53 games, starting in 38 of them.

The Superteam That Wasn’t

When the Suns traded for Beal in June 2023, it was the final piece of a bold vision — forming a high-powered “Big Three" alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. The trio, combining elite scoring talent, playoff pedigree, and star power, was expected to contend immediately for an NBA title.

However, the Durant–Booker–Beal experiment never reached its potential.

All three players missed time throughout the 2023–24 season, particularly Beal, whose back and hamstring issues disrupted the team’s ability to establish rhythm and continuity.

Phoenix finished the season with a disappointing first-round playoff exit, swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves. The loss underscored how top-heavy roster construction — driven by massive contracts and a shallow bench — can fail in the postseason grind.

Despite his recent injury history and reduced role in Phoenix, Beal has had an impressive NBA career. He holds career averages of 21.5 points, 4.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds over 801 games (752 starts) with the Wizards and Suns. A three-time All-Star, Beal was drafted No. 3 overall by Washington in 2012.

His peak came during the 2020–21 season, when he averaged 31.3 points per game — the second-highest single-season scoring mark in Wizards franchise history and the second-best in the NBA that year, behind only Stephen Curry’s 32.0 points per game.
