The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the phone tapping scandal has summoned Boyinpally Praveen Rao, a close aide of Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay, for questioning as a witness.
His number was reportedly found among those intercepted.
Another individual from Karimnagar has also been called in as a witness. Both may appear before the SIT as early as tomorrow, though officials say the timeline remains flexible. Meanwhile, BJP MP Eatala Rajender has been asked to present himself for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The controversy first came to light with the arrest of former Deputy Superintendent of Police (SIB) Praneeth Rao on March 13, 2024. He was taken into custody at his residence in Rajanna-Sircilla district following a complaint by his superior, Additional SP D. Ramesh.
Mr. Rao is accused of unauthorised surveillance, having allegedly intercepted the private conversations of political leaders and senior officials without requisite approvals. The investigation is ongoing, with more individuals expected to be questioned in the coming days.
