Physics in action? Police steps in as IIT Guwahati students engage in firecrackers-war on Diwali; watch viral video

NEW DELHI: A video circulating on social media captures a chaotic scene at IIT Guwahati, where a Diwali celebration turned into a fiery exchange of crackers between students. What began as festive fun quickly escalated into a dangerous “firecracker war” between residents of the Barak and Umiam hostels, forcing police to intervene. In the viral clip, students can be seen launching rockets and bursting crackers at each other from across hostel buildings, lighting up the campus sky in a chaotic display. The noise and intensity of the fireworks made the area resemble a battlefield more than a festival ground.A user on X shared the video with the caption, “This video is allegedly from IIT Guwahati, where a Diwali firecracker war broke out among the ‘most talented’ students of India.

Police had to intervene to stop it. Seems these students were trying to learn how rockets and missiles work — and how physics and geometry apply when firecrackers are burst.”

Another user wrote on X, "Crackers war at IIT Guwahati. Police and security had to intervene to stop the celebrations after it got out of hands."

As of now, IIT Guwahati authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
