It was a simple question: “Who do you model your game after and who do you look up to in the NFL?” But the way Makai Lemon answered that question, it stole everyone’s attention, more than the answer! It was the way in which he answered that insanely occupied the cyberspace. No wonder former Pittsburgh Steelers GM Kevin Colbert spoke about how disrespectful that can be to the player in April 2025: “It’s really bad for our profession when people use whatever means they use to get information out to try to influence the draft, and they talk about a kid’s test score, a kid’s injury, a kid’s character. That’s awful. It’s disrespectful to our profession. It’s disrespectful to the game. And it’s disrespectful to the kid.

A 13-second video of Lemon’s interview was shared by Bryce DeGroat on X. It garnered over 10 million views, 700+ comments, 1.4K reposts, 7.8K hearts, and 2.1K bookmarks. The podium was placed a few floors above the reporters’ seating area. When a reporter asked Makai the model question, he had to look down because the podium was higher than the reporters’ seats. This made his eyes appear to glare upwards. Often, people look up while thinking of an answer; however, one cybercitizen described this as “strange, strange mannerisms.”

Then he had both his hands on the podium, and he was leaning towards it, and he also tilted his head quite a few times in his answer. This was called, “Is bro trying to seduce me? I’m uncomfortable.” He was shrugging his shoulders a lot, too. A user commented, “What in the world is this vibe? Dude was feeling the question.” Another speculated, “Something is off about that dude; he looks like he’s tweaking.”A commenter suggested watching the video without the audio and said it looked like “slam poetry.”

It is a high-energy spoken-word competition where theatrics are common. One user joked that the Steelers prospect had the “mannerisms of a GTA 5 character.” Slow, subtle movements may have looked like animation.Another post read, “Is this a joke? Does Mr. Lemon know he’s interviewing for a job right now?” A user predicted the 2026 NFL Draft prospect’s future: either “going to be an all-time great” or “out of the league in 3 years.”This mix of scrutinizing responses shows why a simple interview can go viral, specifically because of the “way” a prospect answered a question. For those interested in his actual response, here it is: “Probably, Amon-Ra St. Brown. The type of grit he plays with, the way he can have a positive impact on the team without the ball in his hands.”

Now, this interview may affect Makai’s Pittsburgh selection.

Still Curtain’s Loyal Ricks Jr reports that Pittsburgh does not wish to babysit potential headaches.

Culture and accountability matter. In particular, for a team trying to rebuild.Lemon’s interview struggles are nerve-racking. Maturity concerns. Scheme knowledge gaps. Confidence misread. NFL front offices weigh those interactions heavily. Lemon is a high-quality draft prospect. Undeniable natural ability as a receiver. Yet drafting him would require more than just admiration for his tape.
