Nottingham Forest picked the perfect moment to hit top gear.

A ruthless 5-0 demolition of Sunderland at the Stadium of Light has pushed Forest eight points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, piling serious pressure on both Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

With Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley already down, the fight to avoid the final drop spot is now shaping into a tense two-team scrap.

First-Half Blitz Leaves Sunderland Reeling

Sunderland started brightly, dominating possession early on. But Forest were lethal whenever they surged forward.

The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Trai Hume turned Igor Jesus’s header into his own net.

From there, it snowballed quickly.

Chris Wood made it 2-0 after a costly error from goalkeeper Robin, Roefs Morgan Gibbs-White volleyed in a third, and Jesus added a fourth moments later.

Forest Stay in Control

The hosts did show some fight after the break. Dan Ballard thought he’d pulled one back, but his goal was ruled out for a foul by Nordi Mukiele. That pretty much summed up Sunderland’s night.

Forest, meanwhile, stayed composed and clinical, as Elliot Anderson capped things off in stoppage time, calmly slotting home to complete the rout.

Perfect Timing for Forest, Pressure Mounts on Spurs

The win takes Forest to 39 points and puts them within touching distance of safety.

Under Vitor Pereira, they’ve hit form at just the right time, now unbeaten in six league games.

Meanwhile, Tottenham, led by Roberto De Zerbi, are two points behind West Ham on 31, with five games left.

Spurs travel to Wolves next, while West Ham host Everton — all fixtures that could reshape the survival battle yet again.
