The members of Long Trains & MMTS Travellers Association has requested the South Central Railway (SCR) to upgrade Neredmet MMTS station into a mainline one with halts for express trains.
President of the association, Noor Ahmed Ali, in a press release, informed that many trains are now being diverted via Sanathnagar, bypassing Secunderabad station. This bypass line goes through Neredmet, making it a strategically ideal location to develop as a halt for express trains.
The current infrastructure at the existing MMTS station can be upgraded by extending the two platforms by approximately 250 metres to accommodate 24-coach express trains. Neredmet is a densely populated area and making this a stop for long-distance trains would greatly improve accessibility for lakhs of people, he said.
Moreover, there is demand from local residents, students and office-goers for halts of express trains, especially for those traveling to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Warangal, Guntur and other eastern districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, he said.
