The Centre stated that several lakh farmers enrolled for PM Kisan despite being ineligible, violating guidelines. These applications have now been flagged as suspicious

Amid a surge of misinformation circulating in the media and on social media platforms about the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, the Centre has stepped in with a crucial clarification. To quell the confusion among farmers, the government has issued an “Important Notice” on its official website, aiming to counter false claims and set the record straight. Here’s what the Centre said in its announcement.

The Centre disclosed that several lakh farmers across the country had enrolled for the PM Kisan scheme in violation of the prescribed guidelines. Despite being ineligible, many applied as eligible beneficiaries, and the government has now formally flagged these applications as suspicious. According to the clarification, a number of cases involved individuals who acquired land after February 1, 2019, leading to multiple members of the same family, such as spouses, senior family members, or even minors, receiving benefits simultaneously. The government termed this practice illegal and confirmed that such applicants have been declared ineligible. However, the announcement also carried a silver lining.

The central government clarified that the removal of names from the PM Kisan beneficiaries list is temporary, not permanent. Physical verification will be conducted for the names removed, and eligible individuals will be reinstated, ensuring that ineligible individuals are not included again. The government has also issued a guideline to the farmers.

Farmers receiving money under the PM Kisan scheme should check whether their names are on the list and verify their eligibility for the scheme. Eligibility details can be found on the PM Kisan website (https://pmkisan.gov.in) under the "eligibility status" section. To check if their name has been kept or removed, farmers can visit the "Know Your Status" (KYS) section. These details are also available through the mobile app or Kisan Mitra chatbot.

The Centre issued this notice in the wake of a major cleanup drive. Recently, the names of 35,44,213 farmers were removed from the PM Kisan beneficiaries list nationwide. The government has advised these farmers to verify their eligibility and, if they qualify, reapply without delay by submitting the required documents. The reapplication process can be completed either through a mobile device or at Meeseva centres.

The Centre has not yet released the 21st instalment of PM Kisan benefits, nor has it officially announced a date for its disbursal. Meanwhile, some speculative claims have surfaced. According to some reports, the annual assistance under PM Kisan could be increased to Rs 9,000. Other reports claim that farmers may receive the usual Rs 2,000 for the 21st instalment, maintaining the existing annual support of Rs 6,000. However, these reports remain unverified, as no official statement has been issued by the central government regarding any change in the scheme.

The Centre is presently concentrating on clearing the beneficiary list of ineligible farmers and is expected to release the next instalment only after this verification exercise is completed. Officials have indicated that the delay is intended to ensure that PM Kisan funds reach only bona fide beneficiaries. Preliminary assessments suggest that nearly 50 lakh farmers may ultimately be deemed ineligible, which could ease the scheme’s financial load. Currently, around 10 crore farmers across the country receive assistance under PM Kisan.

Farmers have been advised to stay alert until the Centre releases the 21st instalment of PM Kisan benefits. They are urged to check regularly whether their names remain on the beneficiary list or have been removed. Eligible farmers must ensure their names are not inadvertently deleted, as this could delay their payments. In cases where a genuine beneficiary’s name is removed by mistake, prompt reapplication can help restore their status.
