PM Modi Congratulates Nepal Interim PM Sushila Karki: 'Example Of Women Empowerment'

PM Narendra Modi congratulated Sushila Karki on becoming Nepal's Prime Minister, calling it a new beginning and a strong example of women empowerment for the Himalayan nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his congratulations to Sushila Karki on her appointment as the new Prime Minister of Nepal, calling it a “new beginning" for the Himalayan nation and a strong example of women empowerment.

Addressing a rally in Manipur, PM Modi said, “On behalf of 140 crore Indians, I congratulate Sushila Karki ji on becoming the Prime Minister of Nepal. She is an example of women empowerment. I am confident that she will pave the way for peace, stability, and prosperity in Nepal. It is a new beginning for Nepal."

Karki’s appointment following the deadly unrest, marks a significant moment in Nepal’s political landscape. As the first woman to hold the position of Prime Minister in the country, her leadership is being seen as a milestone for gender equality and democratic progress in the region.

Calling it a “new beginning for Nepal," PM Modi expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations and regional cooperation under her leadership.

PM Modi also highlighted a grassroots movement unfolding across Nepal that has largely gone unnoticed.

“Another thing that was particularly noteworthy in the events that took place in Nepal… which people haven’t paid attention to. For the past two-three days, Nepal’s young men and women… have been seen on Nepal’s roads doing cleaning and painting work with great effort and a sense of purity," he stated.
