PM Modi Meets Internally Displaced People In Manipur’s Churachandpur: Here’s What They Told News18

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with internally displaced people during his visit to Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Saturday, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the affected communities. Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister first interacted with displaced families who have been living in relief camps for the past two years.

The people warmly welcomed him with a handmade bouquet and a painting created by children from the camps. News18 spoke with some of those who had the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister.

Dicky, a class 12 student who presented the bouquet, shared her excitement.

“I was very happy. I gave him the bouquet, and he asked me if I had made it. I told him, ‘Yes, along with my friends’. He told us we are the future and that he will support us. I never imagined I would get the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister of the country. I told him it took us two weeks to prepare the bouquet, and he blessed me."

The sense of joy among the displaced people was clearly visible. Diamond, a class 5 student who gifted the Prime Minister a painting, also spoke with News18.

“I gave him the painting of Modiji that I made with my friends. He told me ‘good job’ and said I am the future. I was nervous, but my teachers supported me. I am very happy today," she said.

A large number of displaced women also came forward to meet the Prime Minister. Lamva, who has been living in Churachandpur for the last two years, expressed her concerns.

“I told the Prime Minister that we had been waiting for him for so long. We shared our pain with him. He asked my name, and I told him I am from Sugnu. I told him we have been waiting for you for two years, and we are suffering. What we want is a separate administration," she said.

The Prime Minister also met displaced families in Imphal, where he assured them of the government’s commitment.

“It is our primary responsibility to ensure that people who have lost their homes and livelihoods are able to get back on track," he said. “Every possible effort is being made to restore normal life in Manipur. For families who have been displaced, our government is providing assistance to build 7,000 new homes. Recently, a special package of nearly Rs 3,000 crore has been approved. In addition, Rs 500 crore has been specifically allocated to support displaced families."
