In a heartwarming gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accepted a traditional headgear from the members of Chhattisgarh’s tribal community on the stage of a public event as a mark of respect towards the tribal culture of the state.

During his visit to the state, PM Modi interacted with members of the tribal community of Chhattisgarh. The tribal members wanted to gift a traditional headgear to the Prime Minister, but it was not allowed at a public event due to security reasons.

However, before addressing the public event in Raipur, PM Modi asked security to bring the headgear inside and accepted it on the stage, showcasing his respect for the tribal culture of Chhattisgarh.

The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones of Rs 14,260 crore projects across key sectors such as roads, industry, healthcare, and energy in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, marking 25 years since the formation of the state. He also inaugurated the new building of the Chhattisgarh assembly and unveiled the statue of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He noted Chhattisgarh’s journey in the last 25 years, from being identified as a state of Naxalite violence and backwardness to a symbol of prosperity, security and stability. He emphasised that the state was moving forward on the path of development and the day was not far when India would be free from the terror of Naxalism.

“For 50 years, the people here suffered unbearable pain (because of Naxalism). Those who show off the Constitution and shed crocodile tears in the name of social justice have committed injustice to you for vested interests," he said in Raipur. “For years, tribal villages lacked roads, schools and hospitals. The existing ones were blown up with bombs. Doctors and teachers were killed. Those who ruled the country for decades abandoned you while they enjoyed life in their air-conditioned offices."

PM Modi also handed over house keys to some beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Chhattisgarh in Nava Raipur. He also inaugurated India’s first digital museum dedicated to tribal freedom heroes in Chhattisgarh, called the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Memorial and Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum.
