Fresh from scripting history at the DY Patil Stadium, India’s World Cup-winning women’s cricket team is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side defeated South Africa by 52 runs in Sunday’s final at Navi Mumbai to end India’s long wait for a global title.

The champions are currently in Mumbai before flying to the national capital for their meeting with the Prime Minister.

They will meet the PM on Wednesday.

Following the team’s triumph, PM Modi shared a congratulatory message on X, describing the victory as “spectacular” and praising the players for their determination and unity. “A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals.

Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports,” Modi wrote.

Meanwhile, celebrations are still being discussed at the administrative level. The BCCI has yet to finalise plans for a victory parade to mark the historic achievement.

“Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told IANS on Monday, speaking from Mumbai airport. “I’m leaving for Dubai to attend the ICC meetings. Several senior officials are heading there as well, so once we return, we will plan accordingly.” The ICC meetings, scheduled from November 4 to 7 in Dubai, will keep most of the board’s top brass occupied this week. The BCCI is expected to decide on the felicitation ceremony and parade plans after their return.

To honour the players and support staff, the BCCI has already announced a cash reward of ₹51 crore. “Harmanpreet Kaur and her team haven’t just won a trophy, they’ve won the hearts of all Indians,” Saikia added, calling the triumph “a new dawn” for women’s cricket in India.
