Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) is government’s flagship scheme, under ministry of rural development and implemented with the ministry of housing and urban affairs.

The programme aims to provide a pucca house with basic amenities to all houseless households and those living in kutcha or dilapidated homes in rural India, addressing housing shortages and supporting the mission of “Housing for All.” Each house has a minimum area of 25 sq m, including space for hygienic cooking. Beneficiaries are identified using Socio-Economic and Caste Census parameters and verified by Gram Sabhas, with funds directly transferred to Aadhaar-linked bank or post-office accounts.How to apply for PMAY Gramin scheme — In 10 steps

  • Visit the Portal – Go to the official PMAY-G website and log in.
  • Enter Personal Details – Fill in gender, mobile number, Aadhaar number, and other personal information.
  • Upload Aadhaar Consent – Submit the consent form for using the Aadhaar number.
  • Search Beneficiary – Use name, PMAY ID, or priority to find the beneficiary.
  • Select to Register – Click ‘Select to Register’ to automatically generate beneficiary details.
  • Complete Remaining Details – Add ownership type, relation, Aadhaar number, and other information.
  • Add Bank Details – Enter bank account information; select ‘Yes’ for loan if applicable and provide loan amount.
  • Provide Convergence Details – Enter MGNREGA job card number and Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) number.
  • Office Verification – The concerned office fills in the final section of the registration.
  • Submit Documents – Ensure all details are correct and submit the application for processing.

Beneficiaries must provide an Aadhaar number along with a self-attested copy of the Aadhaar card. If the applicant is illiterate, a consent letter with the applicant’s thumbprint is required. A valid MGNREGA job card, bank account details (both originals and copies), and the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) number must also be submitted. Additionally, an affidavit stating that the beneficiary or their family members do not own a pucca house is mandatory.

As of 27 September 2022, two crore houses have been completed against a target of 2.72 crore. The scheme has been extended until 31 March 2024, with the objective of covering one crore houseless or inadequately housed rural households within three years of launch. PMAY-G promotes construction using local materials, designs, and trained masons, adopting a habitat approach to ensure houses become functional homes.
