Chandy Oommen, Congress MLA, on Saturday (September 6, 2025) alleged that the police had “helped create a situation” that allowed a group of Communist Party of India (Marxist) activists to manhandle Youth Congress (YC) State general secretary V.P. Dulkhifil at Vadakara in Kozhikode on August 27.
Mr. Oommen told the media that the police had removed the key from Mr. Dulkhifil’s car, claiming he had violated single-lane traffic rules and that a police officer had been hit by the vehicle. Producing closed-circuit television footage, the MLA said the police’s claims were false. Mr. Dulkhifil, also a member of the Kozhikode District Panchayat, was reportedly assaulted by CPI(M) activists the same day after a group of Democratic Youth Federation workers waylaid Shafi Parambil, MP, as part of their protests against Rahul Mamkootathil, Palakkad MLA. Mr. Dulkhifil alleged that, though he had urged the police to let him go, they refused to do so.
Mr. Oommen said the State government was found to be protecting police personnel involved in such illegal acts, similar to the case of a Youth Congress worker in Kunnamkulam. He warned that a protest would be organised if no action was taken against them.
