The Kozhikode district committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has alleged that the police are intimidating their activists in the guise of an investigation into the ‘kafir screenshot’ controversy.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) government had recently set up a special investigation team to reopen the probe into a WhatsApp screenshot with communal content that appeared on the eve of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in the Vadakara constituency.

DYFI district secretary L.G. Ljieesh claimed here on Thursday that the police were now threatening the members of ‘Vadakara Squad’, a pro-Left social media group, and frequently summoning them for interrogation. Attempts were being made to portray them as culprits in the case. Later on, inaccurate information was being passed on to the media terming it as their statements.

Pointing out that the police were acting at the behest of the Youth Congress and the UDF, DYFI leaders said they would launch an agitation ‘if there were moves to score political points.’
