Police Martyrs’ Commemoration Day was observed with solemn tributes across Chittoor and Sri Sathya Sai districts on Tuesday, honouring police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty to protect the nation and uphold law and order.

In Chittoor, District Principal Judge Aruna Sarika, Collector Sumit Kumar, and Superintendent of Police Tushar Doodi paid homage to the martyrs. Speaking on the occasion, Judge Sarika noted that police and security forces play a crucial role in safeguarding borders and maintaining peace, often under challenging conditions. She applauded the increasing participation of women in policing and saluted the families who encourage their children to serve the nation.

Collector Sumit Kumar highlighted that since Independence, more than 35,000 police personnel have sacrificed their lives in service, including 191 officers in the past year. He commended the Andhra Pradesh police for their tireless efforts against red sanders smuggling, Maoist insurgency, drug trafficking, and crimes against women and children.

In Sri Sathya Sai district, Collector A. Syam Prasad and SP S. Satish Kumar inaugurated the Police Commemoration Day event at the police grounds in Puttaparthi. SP Satish Kumar recalled the origins of the day, marking the October 21, 1959 clash in Ladakh where ten CRPF personnel were killed in action.

The dignitaries later presented compassionate appointment letters and financial aid to the families of deceased police personnel.
