Police officer injured during vehicle check; search on for driver

The Muvattupuzha police have launched a district-wide search for a car driver who allegedly ran over the feet of a sub-inspector and sped away during a vehicle check at Kadalikkad on Saturday evening (June 14).

The injured officer has been identified as E.M. Muhammed, a sub-inspector attached to the Kalloorkad police station. The incident occurred when the police team signalled the car to stop, and the driver, reportedly attempting to evade the check, accelerated and drove over the officer’s feet, causing him to collapse.

The officer suffered fractures in his feet and was rushed to the hospital. Reports also indicate that he sustained injuries to his hand and may require surgical intervention.

The police suspect that there were two people in the vehicle. A case has been registered for attempted murder and for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty.
