The Kaggalipura police swooped down on a homestay where a rave party was happening in the wee hours of Saturday and detained more than 130 revelers who were reportedly found under the influence of alcohol.
A few of them were suspected to have consumed narcotic drugs.
The operation was carried out at Ayaan Retreat Homestay on the outskirts of the city at around 3 a.m., following reports of an illegal party involving drug use.
The police said that all the detained participants were residents of Bengaluru. They were taken to the Ramanagara District Hospital for medical tests.
Probe revealed that the event was organised through a WhatsApp group named ‘Gen Z’. The participants, aged between 19 and 23, were mostly college students and working professionals from Bengaluru. Three of them were minors, the police said.
The group used to coordinate and update each other through WhatsApp every time such parties were planned. The authorities have taken the organisers into custody for questioning, and further investigation is under way.
Srinivas Gowda, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru South District, said, “The homestay in question is being operated without obtaining any permission and were conducting parties that caused disturbance to nearby residents.”
“Acting on a tip-off, a team led by the Kaggalipura police station inspector raided the premises. Over 100 people were found partying at the spot, including many women and three minors,” he said.
The police recovered cigarette butts, which would be sent for forensic examination, and a few grams of marijuana and a large number of liquor bottles.
Four persons, who were identified as the organisers of the event, have been booked.
