Police rescue 17 kids from illegal madrasa

Margao: Maina-Curtorim police carried out a raid on a madrasa that was operating illegally at the Rumdamol Housing Board on Monday night, and rescued 17 children hailing from Goa, Karnataka, and Bihar who were found to be without proper identification documents.The unauthorised religious educational facility was operating from a building in Rumdamol without any permission from authorities, police sources said.Acting on complaints from local residents about suspicious activities in the area, police teams moved in to search the premises late on Monday.The police found that none of the 17 children could produce Aadhaar cards or any other documents. Sources said that the madrasa was functioning for the last several years but recently shifted to this building. All 17 children were produced before the child welfare committee on Tuesday in accordance with the statutory requirement.Further investigation in the case is under way.
