“The role of police officials and personnel in maintaining law and order and ensuring peace in society is crucial and it is everyone’s duty to remember their sacrifice and extend a helping hand to police families,” Chief Executive officer of Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Bhuvanesh Patil has said.
He was addressing a gathering after paying tributes to police martyrs at the Police Commemoration Day programme at the District Police Headquarters in Dharwad on Tuesday.
“Police officials and personnel have dedicated themselves to the safety of the civilians and their civil rights and it is our duty to treat them with respect. They play a very crucial role in preserving the health of society,” he said.
Mr. Patil said that the government has taken several steps for the improvement of the police system, police infrastructure and extending additional amenities to them.
“Already, various committees have submitted their reports. Based on their reports, various measures have been taken to provide advanced training and facilities. Government will always stand with the police personnel and department,” he said.
He said that it is important that everyone remembers the role of the family members of the police officials and personnel in enabling them to do their work honestly.
Director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Dharwad, Venkappayya Desai said that maintaining law and order and serving society honestly is not limited to police officials and personnel alone.
Every citizen has a great responsibility in this regard, he said.
Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya, who made the introductory remarks, read out the names of police martyrs.
A host of police officials serving and retired, their family members and people from different walks of life took part in the Commemoration Day celebrations.

Participating in the Police Commemoration Day programme at Old CAR Ground in Hubballi on Tuesday, First Additional District and Sessions Judge Pallavi B.R. said that the role of the general public in protecting and preserving good health of society is equally important.
Paying tribute to police martyrs, she said that while the police served continuously to maintain law and order and ensuring peace in society, it is important that the general public extended necessary cooperation to them.
On the history of Police Commemoration Day, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar mentioned that a total of 191 police officers and personnel lost their lives while on duty between September 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025.
Good cooperation from the public will help in further improving police services, he said.
Earlier, police personnel fired three rounds in the air as a tribute to martyrs, followed by a rendition of the national anthem by the Police Band.
Chairman of Hubballi-Dharwad Urban Development Authority Shakir Sanadi, Managing Director Swarnaa Group V.S.V. Prasad, the former MP I.G. Sanadi, Deputy Commissioners of Police Raveesh C.R. and Mahaning Nandagavi and a host of police officers serving and retired and civilians were present.
