In addition to their regular duties, Bengaluru traffic police personnel have been tasked with creating awareness about fuel conservation and pollution control among motorists. Police officers stationed at key junctions are educating commuters about the impact of fuel wastage and vehicle emissions on the environment.
As part of this new initiative, the Byatarayanapura traffic police are approaching motorists waiting at signals with eco-friendly messages, and urging them to adopt simple, yet impactful habits of switching off engines at long signals, maintaining vehicle health, and reducing pollution, which causes global warming.
“Motorists often overlook the cumulative impact of their daily actions. A few minutes of idling at signals or aggressive driving not only wastes fuel, but adds significantly to air pollution,” said a senior traffic police officer. “With rising fuel prices and deteriorating air quality, public awareness is the need of the hour,” an inspector attached to Byatarayanapura traffic told The Hindu.
To begin with, the campaign has been started at the Rajarajeshwari Nagar signal, and will be extended to other major signals having longer durations.
