Ponda: Shekhar Naik, 58, from Velap-Kapileshwari in Ponda taluka, died after reportedly slipping into a nullah from the local bridge late on Friday. His body was found floating in the nullah on Saturday.Like other villagers, he would often sit on the side railing of the bridge, which is hardly 100m away from his house.On Friday evening, there was no electricity in the area and people had seen him going towards the bridge, Ponda police said.Quoting his family members, the Ponda police said he must be under the influence of alcohol and must have slipped into the nullah.An autopsy conducted at the South Goa District Hospital at Margao has revealed he died due to asphyxia as a result of drowning.Ponda police has registered a case of unnatural death.
