More than 90% of the Porunai Museum work has been completed, District Collector R. Sukumar has said.

The Porunai Museum, with an area of 54,000 sq. ft. is being established near Reddiyarpatti hillock at an outlay of ₹56.57 crore on 13 acres of land to tell the world about the ancient civilisation of Tamils. It is expected to be ready for inauguration before Pongal. Artefacts recovered at Aditchanallur, Korkai, and Sivakalai excavation sites would be displayed on the premises.

While the artefacts recovered at Aditchanallur would be on display in a wing with 16,486 sq. ft., the artefacts of Korkai will be in the building with 17,429 sq. feet. The artefacts of Sivakalai will be on display in a building built with 8,991 sq. ft.

Apart from this, administrative building, park with ornamental lights, pond, fountain, amphitheatre, and so on have been created on the premises. Battery cars will be operated for senior citizens to move around within the museum premises.

“More than 90% of Porunai Museum work has been completed and the showcases carrying the artefacts are being spruced up. So, the museum will be formally inaugurated soon,” said Dr. Sukumar.
