Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has demanded that the socio-educational survey be postponed beyond Dasara or the time given for it be extended.

“I have no objection to the social-educational survey. If the Supreme Court has directed it, let it happen. But can 6.5 crore people really be surveyed in just 15 days and that too during Navaratri? Are festivals and duties only for the government, not for teachers, anganwadi workers, and officials?” he asked in a statement here on Saturday.

He said that citizens deserve “an honest, objective survey, not another wasted report draining taxpayers’ money.” He argued at least three months are essential to conduct it in stages.

Meeting of Vokkaligas

He was among several political leaders who attended a meeting of the Vokkaliga community, from across parties, chaired by Adichunchanagiri Mutt seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami.

The seer said that all Vokkaligas should describe themselves as “Hindu” in religion column and “Vokkaliga” in the caste column.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok attended the meeting.
